The road was pretty rough, and we were nearly deterred by the threatening weather. But the trail sign seduced us with its short .8 mile distance. We arrived just as the first squal hit and had to hide in the trees at first. Then it cleared, revealing a blue-green glacial tarn, like a gem in the mountains. What a treat to share this pristine locate with only a few fishermen. In between more violent bursts of wind and rain at 10,700 feet, an osprey took advantage of the now calm and crystal-clear lake surface -- it swooped down from a tall snag on the small island, landing in the water to fech its prey. Twice, we saw it fly away with fish in its talons. We got back to the car just in time. It rained heavily on and off for a day and a half! I painted this recollection the next day inside the camper!
